My son and his family came for a visit yesterday afternoon. They brought cookies that my granddaughter and her mother baked. They were adorable, all decorated in holiday themes. Best of all, they were delicious! They also brought the cutest wind chime. It's an owl! It has a nice tone when it rings, although until spring arrives, Mr. Owl will stay in the living room, where it will adorn the mantle. He makes a very interesting conversation piece.
My granddaughter likes mysteries! And so, I've ordered her an original edition of "The Secret of the Golden Pavilion" (1959). It is the Nancy Drew mystery that was written in honor of Hawaii becoming our 50th state. It depicts the islands in all their splendor, although they do thinly disguise the Coronation Pavilion as the golden pavilion and the Royal Hawaiian by giving it a different name. Still, when you know the real places, you know what they are in the book. That was the last Nancy Drew mystery I bought. To this day, I own all of the first 36 mysteries and favor the earliest ones, when Nancy drove a roadster and wore a plume in her hat.
